Many customers are well-pleased with this particular ice cream maker. The machine is fully automatic. It makes 1-1/2 qt of ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet in an hour or less. A customer review shared some tips on how to create a perfect concoction. She suggested using custard bases to have smoother, creamier and richer results. Bases can be prepared the night before, allowing the mixture to blend its flavors and ensuring a cold base. The cold base, as the customer said, will rapidly freeze the ice cream and less likely to develop ice crystals.

While many customers are happy this ice cream maker, there are those who expressed their disappointments about the machine. One customer who said that she was a Cuisinart fan was terribly dissatisfied with the mixing paddle or as what she called as the churning device. The churning stops when the ice cream base begins to harden. The ice cream at the perimeter bowl freezes that it was impossible to churn while the middle part was soupy. Also troubled by the looseness the motor arm, another customer remedied it by securing the compressor motor vents with the use of an elastic strap with flat hooks. The motor reverse its direction when the mixture hardens. She simply removed the ice cream and stored it in the freezer. Nevertheless, she gave the machine a 5 star rating.

The majority of the customer reviews for this Cuisinart automatic ice cream maker in Amazon received a high approval rating. They were happy on how quick it is to prepare home-made ice cream and their other favorite dessert. Ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt or frozen drinks can be served in as little as 20 minutes.
One reviewer who rarely eats ice cream was at first hesitant to purchase the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. However, realizing that she could create her own concoction to complement any diet, she purchased the machine and loved it. She finds it so easy to use and clean. For better results of the ice cream, she strongly recommends that bowl must be frozen. Two days in the freezer would work perfectly.
She also suggested that ingredients must be very cold and mixtures must be chilled before adding it. She was also extra careful with the choice of ingredients in her recipe because it may either make or break your ice cream. Another reviewer mentioned that food flavoring which contains propylene glycol will produce a soupy ice cream. The propylene glycol is an ingredient that is used as antifreeze. So basically, what she was doing was putting an antifreeze ingredient to her ice cream recipe.

Reviewers suggested using cream in the mixture, resulting in a richer, thicker and tastier ice cream. Some found great success by using half milk and half yogurt. To prevent clogging, one reviewer suggested that solid ingredients must be finely chopped or crushed before adding, and they must be added into the mixture during the last 5 minutes of the freezing process.

Dwain M. Gleason made a great review about this product, stressing that some people, referring to those who gave negative reviews about the Cuisinart Ice-45 Ice-Cream Maker, are expecting something more than what the ice-cream maker offers. She firmly believes that the machine delivers what it promised. One-by-one, she enumerated what her impressions and thoughts are about the product. The ice-cream maker uses a freezer bowl. She suggested that the bowl must be in the deep freeze when not in use. The soft serve mix must be prepared in advance, at least an hour, and chilled it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes without freezing it. For a bigger serving, she suggested an additional freezer bowl and make sure to keep it frozen. The first serving may produce a soupy ice cream but don’t fret, let it dispense to a cup and add it back to the freezer bowl. Dwain also noted that unlike conventional ice cream freezer, Cuisinart uses a freezer bowl. The machine offers the convenience as it doesn’t require a mix of ice and rock salt, but it lacks the capability of the conventional freezer or the soft serve dispensers used in the restaurants. However, she enjoyed using the machine as it gives them a nice treat during a summer afternoon.

Note that this machine is not the same with DQ Blizzard as the Blizzard’s three-condiment dispensers are for toppings and are not designed for mixing into the soft serve ice cream.
